Tata College established the Department of English in 1954. The department offers both UG and PG programs. All the programs are as per the guidelines by University Grant Commission (UGC) of India under Choice Based Credit System (CBCS). The department doesn’t offer any program that is interdisciplinary in nature.
Dr. Smita Jha heads the department at present. She has more than 12 years experience in teaching at both UG and PG level. Dr Jha has dozens of research papers published in national and internal journals. Another important faculty member of the department is Dr. R S Dayal. But, Dr Dayal is presently deputed at the University Department of English and Cultural Studies at Kolhan University, Chaibasa. Whenever Dr Dayal gets time, he loves to teach at the Department of English at Tata College, Chaibasa. The department also has few guest and contractual faculties.
The Department of English at Tata College adopts the following teaching methods:
- Discussion and Inter-personal engagement
- Practical assignment
- Educational tours
- E-learning
- Conventional black board based teaching
The strength of the department is as follow:
- Qualified and dedicated faculty members.
- Enhancing the Initial Learning Behavior of the students
- Input of the Department is very poor but output is satisfactory
The department is planning for introducing new add-on courses like translation and editing.
