Placement Cell

The Placement and Career Counseling Cell (PCCC) at Tata College was established in 2017. The primary activities of the cell include arranging campus placement drive, participating at state level placement fairs, improving employability competency among students and providing quality training in soft skill development. At present, Mr P R Sahoo is the Placement Officer for the college.

Quality Library

Tata College, Chaibasa has a Central Library besides a number of departmental and community center libraries. There is a separate two storeyed building in 4000 sq ft area for the Central Library. The library building contains two specius reading hall, one conference hall, separate sections for repography and e-accessing besides adequate space for section wise .book stacking. The library is partially automated.

Unlimited Books

The Central Library at Tata College contain more than 61,000 books beside few thousand books in different departmental libraries. Each year, the college purchase required amount of new and updated books. Further more, the college also subscribe to INFLIBINET NLIST e-books. Each years more than 5,000 books are downloaded from different subscribed e-resources.

Extra Activities

Tata College has been always encouraging students for extra-curricular activities. As a result, the students of the college has been achieving grate success in the fields like sports, cultural activities, community extension programs and in NCC. The vast playground at the college campus for different activities is more than sufficient. Beside separate pitches for badminton, football, cricket, khokho and archery, the college has also gymnasium and pared ground for NCC.

Political Science

At present Dr Rinki Dorai heads the department. Dr Dorai has more than 12 years teaching experience. She specializes in International Relations. Another important faculty member of the department is Dr Sanjeev Anand. To his credit, Dr Anand has a dozen of research papers, one book and one project report published. At present, Dr Anand holds the position of Public Information Officer and Coordinator of Vocational Courses at Kolhan University, Chaibasa.

Chemistry

Tata College, Chaibasa established the PG Department of Chemistry in 1961. The department offers both undergraduate and postgratuate programs in Natural Chemistry. The Head of the Department has proposed the Kolhan University to introduce a M.Sc. program in Nano Science. but the concerned university has not proceeded the proposal yet. We hope, the university will consider on the proposal soon. If the department get the proposal approved, it will help the learners in being introduced with new dimensions in the study of chemistry.

English

Dr. Smita Jha heads the department at present. She has more than 12 years experience in teaching at both UG and PG level. Dr Jha has dozens of research papers published in national and internal journals. Another important faculty member of the department is Dr. R S Dayal. But, Dr Dayal is presently deputed at the University Department of English and Cultural Studies at Kolhan University, Chaibasa. Whenever Dr Dayal gets time, he loves to teach at the Department of English at Tata College, Chaibasa. The department also has few guest and contractual faculties.

Odia

At present, the Head of the Department is Dr Manju Sarangi. She has 18 years of teaching and researching experience. A number of research papers goes to his Credit. For years, Dr S C Dash, the present Principal of the college, has been Heading the department. Dr Dash has 24+ years experience in teaching at both PG and UG levels. He has authored three books, 10 papers and four chapters in books besides a project report. He has also adequate experience in academic administration.

Natural Sciences

Under the faculty of Sciences and Technology, Tata College, Chaibasa offers six undergraduate programs and five postgraduate programs. The subjects taught are Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Mathematics and Geology.

Art and Humanities

Under the faculties of Social Sciences and humanities, Tata College Chaibasa offers three postgraduate programs and 13 undergraduate programs. PG programs are offered in Political Science, English and Odia.

Computer Application

Tata College, Chaibasa offers one job oriented vocational program, i.e., Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA). The program strength is 50 and it’s a self-financed program.

Add-on Courses

In collaboration with Tata Insitute of Social Sciences (TISS), Tata College offers one add-on course, namely, Employability Excellence with College Education and Learning (EXCEL) for soft skill development among students.

Additional Classes

Besides the regular classes as specified in the Kolhan University syllabus and master routine of the college, Tata College also offers a number of additional classes for the overall development of the students. The two most common types are – ‘Knowledge Based Common Classes’ and ‘Career Enhancement Classes’.

Administration

TATA College at Chaibasa is a State Government of Jharkhand funded College as well as a constituent unit of Kolhan University, Chaibasa. The top administrative control of the college is at the hand of the concerned university. In most of the matters, the university provides direction to the college to implement different policy frameworks. As per the prevailing regulations, any proposal for the administrative and academic reform at college level need to be approved by the university. However, the regulation of the state government and the constituting university provides ample scopes to the the college to handle the quality aspects of the college at its own level.

While strictly adhering to all the regulation and guidelines of the Jharkhand State University Act and Kolhan University directives, Tata College practices its best to deliver quality education to all students. At its own level, the college is highly decentralized so that maximum benefit can be delivered to the students.
